When I first began attending yoga classes, it never occurred to me to question the training and credentials of my teacher. When she did tell me, I didn’t really know what they meant. Now, as a yoga teacher, I realize how varied the training can be and how little regulation there really is.
Credentials don’t guarantee quality. However, I do believe they are important, which is why I sought out an accredited program when I began my teaching journey. It’s also why I want others to at least understand what to look for and what to ask — whether as a student looking for a class and teacher or as a student looking to take a yoga teacher training.
