The Chakras: Solar Plexus

Today is all about the third chakra, the Solar Plexus.

I am currently in a Chakra series, discussing, one at a time, each of the seven chakras. Today is the third Chakra, the Solar Plexus. Be sure to check out my other Chakra posts for the previous discussions over the Root Chakra and the Sacral Chakra.

The Solar Plexus chakra is the fire element. The root is earth, our container. Sacral chakra is liquid, movement within our container, and the Solar Plexus is fire, our engine. Solar Plexus is our ego identity.

It’s connected to our self-definition. It’s a yellow energy behind the naval. Solar plexus chakra is connected to autonomy, self-esteem, and power without shame.

Without a solid foundation, the rest of our work is less effective, which is why we started with the Root. It keeps us grounded enough to stay contained. The Sacral, next, allows us to be open enough to flow and connect. We are moved by the currents of life but not drowned. Then, as the third chakra, the Solar Plexus is the power to act.

The first three chakras are focused on the self, grounded, finding our passion, and the actions we take. We focus here before we go up into the top chakras and engage with the world.

The word ego is a combination of two Greek roots for I and earth. The first three chakras are the self/the I. The top four chakras we talk about are consciousness, or the earth. The third chakras is where these forces meet as the ego identity. As the fire, it is what lifts us up out of ourselves into the world (out of the first chakras) but also is what keeps us tuned in to who we are as our own person. .

When we are balanced in our solar plexus, we are able to meet challenges and feel confident. We have energy and enjoyment in life.

The beauty of the Chakras as a system is that we can find a balance and run optimally. This third chakra, for example, helps us find that balance between ourselves and the earth, of consciousness. We aren’t willful but we are confident. We aren’t self-centered, but we do have autonomy and are able to challenge other people’s perceptions. We aren’t arrogant or manipulative, but we are also not passive. We see ourselves as the agents of our own life.

Affirmations to help us open and balance our solar plexus.
I honor the power within me.
I am true to myself.
I am powerful.
I am define my identity.
I am the agent of my own life.
